Seq V4+ Midi Ports IIC1-4 clock out

I bought a Seq V4+ used on Reverb a few days ago and I am currently trying to use all ports includiing the IIC1-4. Currently I see that OUT1-4 is enabled under Menu>BPM>MClock, but when trying to set the same for IIC1-4 i see I:– O:– for all 4 ports without being able to change that.

Could you please point me to the correct direction on what the issue is here?

The I2C ports are output only; you can’t set a clock input here.

Hi,

Apologies for the confusion, but I want to send clock out. I have a couple of old drum machines that just need clock, no other midi DATA. Is that possible?

ilias - quick idea: do the IIC ports work normally for sequence/note output? If not, they might not be connected internally (i.e. the ribbon cable is not installed properly), then the sequencer would not detect them and you could not send MIDI clock out on those ports.

Sure, you should be able to set any of these outputs to send a clock. If turning the encoder doesn’t allow you to configure the port, maybe there is a strange configuration or setting in the router or similar? If you are looking for a fresh start, you could create a new session or even format the SD card and go again.

Hi Hawkeye and Latigid,

The ports do not work for notes. In the MClock page I am unable to set Yes, and when in Track Instrument page, all IIC ports have an asterisk next to them. I will open the device and check the ribbon cable as suggested, thanks.

You would also need to put the hardware config file on the SD card to define the control surface.

Hi,

I checked all the ribbon cable connections and everything looks well connected. I flashed the SD and copied a new MBSEQ_HW.V4 for my LH version. I still see the same behaviour as before. Midi router is set for all nodes to In-Def, P/Chn —, DefaultPort USB1. Also when in Menu>BPM, all ports can have Yes/No available apart for MClk, apart from IIC1-4 that do not allow me to set anything. Do the I2C work by default when the MIOS and the hardware config I copied earlier are installed?

Hi Ilias,
Normally there is no specific setup needed here; everything should just work out of the box.
Maybe the I2C is not plugged into the correct header on the core?

It’s also possible that the cable is bad. Maybe the ports were never noticed as non-functional?
Are the chips installed? Do they have the correct firmware on them?

I think there is a duty of care required from the person who built your unit, so I would suggest to ask them. But we will also help out as much as we can too.

Hi all, just an update. I managed to solve the problem first by changing the ribbon cable which made IIC1 and 2 to work, and then reflowing some parts that looked like cold solder which made IIC 3 and 4 to work. The unit is running perfectly now, thanks a lot for the support.
