Random Roll (ratchet)

Hi,

Is there any way to have Notes and Gates for a track running forward, but have the Roll (ratchet) trigger randomly? What is the best way to achieve this?

@ilias while i’ve not personally tried this out yet, i think you could add a random gate with a delay effect either to your existing track or to a secondary, copied track - two quotes from the manual:

R.G.: Random Gate - the step will be played randomly. This is especially useful for drum lines to increase the variation w/o creating multiple tracks

Roll: step will be triggered 3 times with short delays - the same effect can be achieved with much more variations by setting the gatelength to 2xdelay, 3xdelay or 4xdelay (delay free definable) - the roll trigger is only an alternative, more comfortable solution

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the suggestion. I would like to emulate (if possible) how analog sequencers were used in berlin school for example. I tried with 2 separate tracks using the same midi output but I couldn’t separate the notes from the gates. I’m curious if this would be something that can be done with buses but it doesn’t look like it. It would be great if parameters without notes could be forwarded to buses

@ilias yes, if using MIDI outputs, there always needs to be a note associated, if ratcheting is going on, the sequencer otherwise would not know which note to (re)trigger. An easy way of separation would be to use the eurorack modules and two different tracks/sequences - one for the notes, one for the gates/ratchets, both can be randomized using the “random gate” function.
