Multiple CV and Gates modules - Interconnections

Hello,

I am finishing up my Euro build (Just starting the SuperDAC PCB’s) and I’m starting to think about how multiple CV and Gate modules should connect. Is there an interconnection diagram anywhere? I’m also wondering if I was supposed to order the J19A header?

Hi Alex,
Sure, if you are chaining multiple A1 modules, you need to populate the J19A header on the superDAC PCB and cable it to the next one in the chain. The AOUT port is then 1-4 based on the connection order, each with 8 channels. Always close the RC1 jumper for all subsequent modules.

I have one more question about adding extra modules. When adding a second gates module does the module go at the end of the chain or does it go after the 1st gates module with clocks then triggers after?

You can freely choose the position of the digital modules as it suits you. Just define the SR (shift register) appropriately in the HW.V4 config file.

Great, thanks! I thought they had to be connected in a specific order. Good to know that they don’t need to be!

I am having trouble understanding which shift registers to define.

For the second AOUT should is look like this?:
CV_GATE_SR1 10
CV_GATE_SR2 11
CV_GATE_SR3 0
CV_GATE_SR4 0

And then for the second gate module should it look like this?:
DOUT_GATE_SR1 12
DOUT_GATE_SR2 13
DOUT_GATE_SR3 0
DOUT_GATE_SR4 0
DOUT_GATE_SR5 0
DOUT_GATE_SR6 0
DOUT_GATE_SR7 0
DOUT_GATE_SR8 0

DOUT_GATE is where the triggers (D3 module) are generated, so it depends on the order you go for.
CV_GATE is the gates (D1 module) corresponding to each A1 module.

I’m still a bit confused.

To add 2nd CV and Gate modules do I only need to activate “CV_GATE_SR2”?
The numbers are the actual shifter register, correct?
If question 2 is correct, then I would activate the “CV_GATE_SR2” with 13 which would be the next free shift register?
Does the shift register used for each module determine the order they are connected in? For instance, in the standard SEQ 4+ euro setup clocks has 11 and triggers have 12 which necessitates The chain be Gates —-> Clocks —–>Triggers.

I think that is all of my questions right now.

Yes (there is no configuration for “AOUT”, the serial chain is simply extended through J19)

The HW.V4 file specifies how the shift register (SR) outputs are controlled by the software. The “standard SEQ 4+ euro setup” can be used as a guide, but the order is not fixed (please see https://forum.midiphy.com/d/214-multiple-cv-and-gates-modules-interconnections/7). You could even build a custom SEQ where the shift register for the first set of DOUT gates was in the middle of a button matrix and the other at the end of the chain, the software really doesn’t care and happily outputs the ones and zeroes in the order that you specify.

Frankly: just try it! The worst thing that can happen is you have an invalid text file (create a backup of it first!). The second-worse thing that can happen is that the output is not configured correctly, meaning you try again with a different parameter.

I got everything up and running. I went with CV, Gate, CV, Gate, Clocks, Triggers with the 1st CV/Gate assigned to 10, the 2nd to 11, Clocks to 12 and triggers to 13.

I am definitely going to add another trigger module or 2.
