Considering an alternative flash facility to MIOS Studio?!

i just went through an upgrade process w/ the LoopA and it’s worrying me:

i can’t run MIOS Studio on my Linux desktop systems (i use Arch, btw)
i still have a MacBook around for a few days
for which i could download MIOS Studio from a HTTP-only site
and then i’d kind of lie when i confirmed that i trust the source to actually run it

so my concern is, that at some point i won’t be able to update the LoopA firmware with an acceptable accessibility. i wanna upgrade the firmware, not troubleshoot a desktop application.

hence i was wondering whether someone ever considered implementing a simple CLI tool that would facilitate flashing firmware of midibox based projects.

if this is of interest for other people, i might give an implementation a shot. likely in Python for portability.

Hi Martin,

absolutely, this is a good idea! I am always worried with new releases of Windows / macOS that something might break.

You will find all of Thorsten’s sources in the MIOS32 github repository:
https://github.com/midibox/mios32/tree/master/tools/mios_studio

Whatever is going on to update the firmware is not magic, so it will be possible to write a shell/script tool for it, but it still will require some work.

An idea: we will release a new eurorack module soon and when the external flash tool fully works on all platforms (Windows/MacOS/Linux) with hopefully minimal dependencies we’d send you one of those for free (covering shipping, but not possible customs taxes/fees) as an implementation thank-you.
