Editor VS single Module users

Can it be that for single-module users there is currently no way to use the editor without getting nexusMidi – is this correct?
The emulator on the website seems to be capable of emulating the module’s function and sound, but only in its factory default configuration.
While the web editor doesn’t seem to have an audio engine to hear what you are doing. So, without midi sysex connection, there is no way of using the editor? That makes sound design unnecessarily difficult for single-module users. I don’t want to say this feels a bit like a deliberate ecosystem up-sell, but this feels a bit like a deliberate ecosystem up-sell… 🙂
The emulator and web editor should be one tool. So you could design your own sounds in the editor, save the SYX to an SD card, and load them onto zetaSid. All the parts are there to make this super deep synth engine more accessible for people who can only afford one voice, whether that’s a budget constraint or simply running out of rack space.

Then, you’re right, while it was certainly not designed as an upsell (two tools designed independently, one after another) it currently certainly seems like an upsell! :-)

We really like to open up zetaSID to the community, to experiment with and listen to it, even to users not owning the hardware, so i hope you believe me when i say that this was not intentional.

Let me think about this for a while if and how we can integrate the two - they are two completely different technologies, one is an optimized encapsulated web assembly based emulator (which cannot emulate the SD card as the hardware is not present), the other is a web toolkit used to control the real hardware. Hmm………

That wasn’t meant to be a roast of any kind. (looking back, it feels a bit like that… sorry)
It just seemed to be a low-hanging fruit, to add some sort of realtime audio engine to the editor, not being aware those are two completely different technologies 🙂

The thought of being able to program this thing using the editor only, without being physically tied to the module, is extremely tempting! You could design sounds during commute on your laptop or pretty much anywhere, and next time you’re in front of your synth just load them onto the zetaSid…
That would be lovely 🙂

Actually, I think you could even sell the zetaSid engine as a VSTi, with preset compatibility…
That would be quite powerful too!
