Exchange CV for Midi ports?

Hello,

Not sure, wether this is the proper place to ask, but being somewhat new to the whole midibox universe and what parts it is made of, I came across the (theoretical) possibility to have up to 32CV/Gate Outs with additional pcbs.

But as far as I can tell, this option, or at least 16 cv/gate outs, maybe in exchange for 4 midi outs, is not possible with the midiphy version?
Are there any vague plans to maybe release a more CV centric version? Or am I missing something obvious and it is already possible?

Hi @hirada ,

The current maximums of SEQ v4+ are:
4x MIDI IN
8x MIDI OUT
4x virtual USB MIDI IN and OUT over a single USB connection
32x CV out (albeit 16 make more sense for 16 tracks)
32x Gate out
8x Clock out (dynamically configurable time dividers)
64x Trigger out (i.e. for drum modules)

All of these can be achieved together (you will need the midiphy Eurorack modules and a few A1 D1 expanders).

Which type of ports would you require most? CV or MIDI?

If you’re feeling that 8x DIN MIDI OUT is not sufficient, i.e. if you have lots of classic synths, we highly recommend to use our MULTI MIDI THRU boxes - personally i am using one for every SEQ v4+ MIDI OUT to be able to drive over 30 classic MIDI synths with minimal latency directly from the SEQ v4+.

thanks very much for your reply. The options are quite impressive, but my question is, AFAIK you do not have any kits, especially cases, that allow for all those outputs? Soldering is not the problem, mechanics is.

My guess is, for 16 or even 32 CV out we would need one or three more sub d connectors respectively, but I do not see any possibility in your cases to add them.
As in cut outs for the connectors, but maybe the inside is also densly packed to not allow for another CV daughter board. I do not know, hence my question.

8 Midiout ports are great, but if space in the case is an issue, I’d happily trade in 4 four of them for at least one additional CV sub d connector. So the question goes, are there any plans to release an alternative, more CV oriented kit of the seq4+?

I am aware I need the Eurorack modules, in fact I would like to have two sets of them (though even only one with the extra clock panels).
But again, so far I am lacking the second sub d jack for the other 8 CV/Gate outs.

@hirada thanks for your requirements clarification!
It will just work out nicely and only with a single SUB-D connection required, as you can chain A1 and D1 modules.

So basically your setup would look like this:
a) midiphy SEQ v4+ (offering the basic MIDI functionality)

b) 25-pin D-SUB cable to your eurorack system

c) midiphy Eurorack Modules kit:

(already offering 8x CV out, 8X gate out, 8x clock outs, 8x trigger outs)

d) additional A1 and D1 modules as required - these are internally chained from the A1 and D1 modules in the base eurorack modules kit using 10-pin IDC cables.

I’d recommend to start with 16 CV and gate outs - while you can go up to 32, which can make sense for certain “hardwired” modular setups, where you can switch from one set of CV outs to another by just loading a new SEQ v4+ session, i believe that one CV out per SEQ v4+ track should be awesome enough to start - and you can always extend the system.

Thanks very much, Hawkeye, that sounds very promising. I’ll be totally fine with 16 CV/Gate connections. But, just out of curiousity, 16 CV/Gates need at least 33 Pins, 65 for 32CV/Gate outs. If one ground wire is sufficient, that is.
How do you archive this with only 25 Pins? My idea of course being, the sub-d connector being just a space efficient alternative to the 3.5mm jacks.

And how are those then addressed from within the synth? I only have some rudimentary theoretical knowledge by reading the ucapps handbook and the Scheidler Videos (Part 8), so this may be a bit of an awkward question. Especially, since both of course are referring to the Wilba (or related) panel.
I suppose that would be using AOUT 1-16 (or 0-15), but how does the sequencer know, how many Analog Channels there actually are? Or are there always 32 channels available for AOUT and it is in the responsibility if the user to not go higher than there are actual outputs? That would be absolutely ok, I am just being a bit curious here.

The DB-25 does not send out the individual control signals but instead an SPI data buss. The same SPI is chained within the Eurorack case.

All ports are available all the time and you have to configure your track events to use the right ones.
