Firmware UI customization

Hey everyone, I would like to make one mod to seq4+ firmware:
Pressing the encoder (the BIG knob) will bring me to the track event page.
That page is used so often and requires a double button press, it would make sense (to me) to have it one simple big button press away. I don’t use the encoder as a button for anything currently.. Does anyone see a real UI problem with this reassignment? (if it is even possible)

3- Looks like its triggered by DIN pin M8C. What does that mean?

Okay, so how can I target this to bring me to Menu-Event page. Could I reconfigure the encoder as a bookmark button? Is the Event page is a valid bookmark assignment? Or do I need to go a bit deeper and play with the v4.096 OS file?

The open nature of the project is so appealing, if there was a short tutorial manipulating these files in MIOS, that would get people started, I think that would be. a great addition to the Seq4+ world!!!

Of course, modding the key functions (also the footswitch input is a nice target! 🙂) is possible in the SEQ v4+ without altering its firmware by just changing the config file.

To answer your questions:

Yes, this is correct for a RH SEQ v4+
Yes
This means this button is mapped to the hardware address M8C/2 - this means nothing else than that it is handled by an internal 8×8 shift matrix in the SEQ v4+ - consider this just to be an identifier for any received button event.

My suggestion would be to unmap this from BUTTON_ENC_DATAWHEEL (as this mapping will “only” perform an encoder acceleration by virtually tapping the “FAST” key).

Unmap like this:
BUTTON_ENC_DATAWHEEL 0 0
(this line disables this mapping)

and then remap by changing the line
BUTTON_DIRECT_BOOKMARK1 0 0
to
BUTTON_DIRECT_BOOKMARK1 M8C 2

Now pushing the encoder button should lead you directly to Bookmark 1.

In the the “Bookmarks Chapter” right at the bottom of the handbook you’ll find further informations on how to set bookmarks:

Excellent It worked perfectly! So now I have the big button as a shortcut to bookmark 1, which I defined to take me to the events page. Any by putting a minus in front of all options except “page” it will bring me to the event page of the current track that I have selected. This is just what I wanted.. Makes it easy for me who is constantly swapping different synths in and out. .

PS: I found this list of pages.. I’m thinking that these are the “official” names of the UI pages/screens for adding bookmarks. . Still need to do a bit more testing on that. (Dont see EVENTS page?
