Bourns slider:
Lots at Mouser but they have a center detent. You could remove the detent or leave as is! You get white LEDs in the Essential Kit to replace any LED colour.
You could try PTL30-15G0-502B2, this is 5k but should be alright (slightly different end slope!).

uSD card: no special requirement! No adapter needed! I’m using the 4GiB one from Reichelt.

Molex header housings:
Quite difficult to source at the moment, though Mouser claims they’ll restock in mid-January.
I think the following from Tayda should work, but no guarantees! Please test it!

Note that the date on Mouser is written in American Style (MM.DD.YYYY), if your location is set to US. So the 2-pin Molex should hopefully be there soon.

about the molex header housings - for what are the need? can i use a standard Pin Header Female-Male connection there? Is there a space problem in the Matrix? Or is it about work-time (crimp vs solder). Or about Stability (i use hot glue to fix the cable on the solder points…)
Standart Pinheader kombination is 12,85mm height (PCB-Top to the Pins where i can solder a Cable) when the cable is soldered in 90° then this would be total height.

You’ll need an 8-pin right-angle male pin header at least as the clearance is tight under the first neo_68 board. I guess you could use a “standard” female single-row header, but it won’t be locking and you might need to use a thinner wire gauge (lower current-carrying capacity). As you have to assemble the board stack by flipping it into the case, there might be a risk of pulling out the wire harness as you turn the boards over.

The Molex connectors were selected for high(er) current carrying in both the KK crimps and thicker wire, they are polarised and locking. I had no idea two years ago that you wouldn’t be able to buy them everywhere!

[…]W1 means white and detented, please check the datasheet. R0 is red, no detent. White 2×3×4 LEDs come in the midiphy parts kit.

This is easier to use as well, as you don’t have to snip each terminal from the strip.

It`s a bit of a mess, finding all parts on different suppliers…
I can find only one 2pin housing 22-01-3027 in the list. I think I need 4 of tem? (power harness)

87 is the 8pin, 1x required. 27 is the 2pin, only 4x needed (8 listed, I can change the BOM later). 0113 is for the metal terminals. Buying more than required is recommended as it takes a little practice. Also 100 is the MOQ.

As they are 2.54 mm pitch, what are the housing dimensions i could use? I am thinking about something like these here:

For the power-supply i got me this one from Reichelt:
MW GST60A12 (mod edit: note that it is a 2.1mm plug! Doesn’t fit in the MatriX DC connector!)
I took a look today at voltage spikes when you turn it on, no severe stuff here, very short (<5µs) spikes at all with max. 15 V seen in my model. Only thing is that it keeps the voltage quite some time, it drops to only <2 V in a few minutes from 12 V, but i only measured it unconnected, without any load.

Pitch is 2.54mm in the design. I had a look, the Reichelt model looks to be a bit smaller, but the pitch is “only” 2.5mm. So it might not fit properly, especially for the 8-way? Leg size seems okay. Total vertical clearance would be 14 - 1.6 - 3mm = 9.4mm, plus there are some components on the back side of the neo board but they shouldn’t interfere. Note that the locking tab often flexes upwards and should be accounted for.

Just blinkenlights! 😆 If you can find other sliders that fit, no problem! These Bourns ones are quite flat though.

Great, please try it and let us know! There shouldn’t be an issue with the slow release of voltage. I guess it would drain faster when connected, but in any case everything has onboard switching regulators.

Hehe, OK, if one takes a look at chapter 4 and 6.4 you can see how the power harness should look like 😉
For the connector types from Reichelt that i suggested: they are in standard 2.54 mm pitch, i just checked it in an empty prototype board with the 8 pin version. The locking mechanism (i talk about the right angled version here) does not add height to the soldered part, it fits “inside” the housing. The cable length is nearly 25 cm, so with one 8 pin version and 4×2 pin versions you are able to get the lengths of 16/24/32/40 cm when you solder them together (do not forget some isolation tape or heat shrink tubing).

Great if the alternative parts fit. If possible please post a photo of them.

Generally it’s best not to solder crimp joints because you add a brittle failure point. Properly crimped parts should have a good gas-tight joint and be strong, but also able to take some strain.

At the moment i do not want to open the sealed PCB plastic, i want to open it when i really have the time to solder it 😉

Some info for people where the budget is way more important than saving time with searching parts: the price you see from Mouser (at least for me) is without tax! Tax was always added for me in the Mouser cart at the very end … 😉 and 🙁. I had projects where it was cheaper to get only 1 position of multiple parts from Reichelt with 6€ shipping than just keep it in the Mouser cart!

I did just order the midiphy matrix pack. So I will stick aorund this thread and keep on watching 🙂
Thanks a lot for all your time finding alternative parts.
I got quite some knowledge about all the different distributors available from germany and will post my findings as well.

For now I thought the TE connect small pitch connectors do look a lot like the ones available from wuerth-elektronik, sadly I dont know if they have their great sample service in place for private customers any more, but
for example the 8pin part which is noch available in mouser right now:

Viel Spaß zum Aufbau!

I would probably do the same with multi-ordering and then there’s spares for a future project 😀. It will also take a little bit of time to solder other parts first, so hopefully in the new year the Molex housings are ready to ship. Mouser will “normally” ship backordered stuff for free when it arrives.

Did anyone think yet to order e.g. the sliders from Digikey (free shipping for >50€) and post the parts locally?
